If you’ve driven on Crain Highway recently, you’ve likely seen the large green Sprouts sign at the intersection of Berry Road.
The grand opening for Sprouts Farmers Market will be held on August 1st at 7 a.m. Sprouts Farmers Market is a supermarket chain that provides fresh produce, meats, dairy, and bulk foods as well as natural, organic, gluten-free, and plant based options.
The Waldorf Marketplace location will be the first in Southern Maryland and the eighth location in the state. Sprouts opened its first store in 2002 and operates 380 locations nationwide.
“We’ve been working very hard to get a high quality grocer to this marketplace… They’re really going to bring a whole new level of shopping and grocery shopping to the marketplace,” said Mark Thompson, Chief of Commercial Development for Charles County Economic Development Department (EDD) at the July EDD Quarterly Roundtable Meeting.
In the meeting, Thompson shared details about the grand opening which includes giveaways and tastings for all those who attend.
“I feel ecstatic about a new organic grocery store! Something I’ve been looking for since I moved to Maryland (formerly of New York City). As a vegan the best thing I can ask for is a market near me where I can get whole nutritious foods,” said Isaiah Lucas, a Charles County resident. “It will be great for my work and school schedule to shop close to home.”
